Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the commercial and technological competition for semiconductors in the international market and its impacts on the economic and political system. Additionally, it sought to present the historical emergence of the semiconductor microchip industry, the functioning of the supply chain, aiming to understand the global demand of the consumer market, as well as the role of national (States) and transnational (firms) agents in the conflict for dominance and hegemony in the semiconductor market. The research method used was exploratory and descriptive; the approach presented is qualitative and quantitative. Thus, data collection was conducted through a bibliographic review of books, scientific articles, and monographs addressing the topic. For the final objective of the research, International Political Economy (IPE) was employed as the method of analysis. The research findings underscore the importance of the complex microchip technology and its impacts on various sectors and markets and on the global economy, far beyond the field of Information and Communication Technology.
