NURSING IN THE PALLIATIVE TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH CERVICAL CANCER

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the role of nursing in the palliative care of patients with cervical cancer, highlighting interventions aimed at symptom control, emotional support, and promoting quality of life. METHODOLOGY: This is an analytical study of descriptive caracter, developed through an Integrative Literature Review. The guiding question was elaborated based on the PICo strategy (Population, Interest, and Context). The search was carried out in the databases of the Virtual Health Library (VHL), including SciELO, MEDLINE, BDENF, and LILACS, using the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) combined by the Boolean operator “AND”: “Nursing” AND “Palliative care” AND “Cervical cancer”. Data analysis was conducted according to the Content Analysis proposed by Bardin. Initially, 416 studies were identified; after applying the eligibility criteria, 93 were selected, with 15 included for final analysis. RESULTS: The findings show the relevance of nursing in palliative care for women with cervical cancer, with emphasis on the control of physical symptoms such as pain, bleeding, fatigue, and adverse effects of treatment, in addition to emotional and spiritual support. It was observed that therapeutic communication and the humanization of care are essential competencies for reducing the suffering and promoting of dignity. In addition, the role of nursing in the coordination of care in Primary Health Care is highlighted, contributing to early screening, timely referral, and integration with specialized services. However, gaps related to unequal access to palliative care persist, especially in vulnerable contexts. CONCLUSION: It is concluded that the performance of nursing in palliative oncology care requires not only technical competence but also human sensitivity, ethics, and preparation for comprehensive care, making the strengthening of public policies and continuing education in heath care.
