THE BORDER LABORATORY AS SUPPORT FOR SURVEILLANCE ACTIONS AGAINST HIV AND HEPATITIS B AND C INFECTIONS ON THE AMAZONIAN BORDER

Border Laboratories (LAFRON) are laboratory units located in border regions to enable the diagnosis of diseases notification and of public health interest. The objective of this research was to analyze the role of the Border Laboratory (LAFRON) in supporting HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C surveillance actions in the municipality of Oiapoque from 2010 to 2017. For this study, records of test results performed at LAFRON – Oiapoque using the ELISA immunochromatographic method were analyzed. The total number of patients treated at LAFRON between 2010 and 2017 for HIV diagnosis was 750, of which 38 were reactive for the disease and 712 were non-reactive. The number of patients seen for hepatitis B diagnosis between 2010 and 2017 was 1.303. Of these, 108 were reactive and 1.195 were non-reactive for anti-HBsAg and total HBc. For hepatitis C diagnosis, 591 tests were performed, of which 17 were reactive and 574 were non-reactive for anti-HCV. The findings of this research confirm that LAFRONs (Border Area Monitoring Centers) are essential allies of epidemiological surveillance in border municipalities such as Oiapoque. This allows for a rapid response to surveillance, facilitating the population's access to a reliable diagnosis and faster treatment in their own region.
