Abstract

The study evaluated the factors associated with the employability of psychology students at a Brazilian university, through quantitative descriptive-correlational research. A total of 413 students participated, 82% of whom were women, with an average age of 26.2 years; most were single (71.6%) and without children (82.7%). In terms of professional experience, 59.3% were working and 55.8% had more than two years of work experience. The Employability Scale was applied, covering four dimensions: search effectiveness, coping with difficulties, optimism, and responsibility/decision-making. The results indicated that students in more advanced stages of their studies had higher scores in search effectiveness and coping with difficulties (p < 0.01). Professional experience and experience in a first degree were associated with higher values in the four dimensions of employability (p < 0.1). It was also observed that night-shift students tend to show greater development in search efficacy, coping with difficulties, and responsibility/decision-making (p<0.1). In addition, interest in participating in career guidance programs was positively correlated with search effectiveness, while actual participation in career interventions was associated with higher scores in this dimension (p < 0.05). The findings reinforce the importance of institutional strategies that promote the development of employability skills throughout undergraduate studies, including practical experiences, career guidance programs, and support for students with prior training, favoring their professional integration and autonomy.
