WATER QUALITY AND BENTHIC MACROINVERTEBRATE COMMUNITY RESPONSE IN A SHALLOW URBAN RESERVOIR: IMPLICATIONS FOR THE ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT OF A PARK FOR CONTEMPLATIVE USE

Shallow lentic ecosystems, such as urban reservoirs, play an important role in maintaining local environmental balance by integrating physical, chemical, and biological processes. Furthermore, they contribute to the landscape and contribute to human well-being. Therefore, this study aimed to quantify and relate environmental parameters to ecological integrity. Physical, chemical, and biological parameters were sampled at three collection points throughout a 24-hour cycle. The following analyses were performed: water temperature, depth, transparency, pH, electrical conductivity, turbidity, total dissolved solids, alkalinity, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, and an assessment of the macroinvertebrate community. The water presents good quality for contemplative use, although there are signs of incipient eutrophication and reduced buffering capacity, with the expected 24-hour variation observed. Considering the purpose of the municipal park, the macroinvertebrate community was extremely poor, likely due to the ichthyofauna and low structural diversity of the environment.
