LA CONSTRUCCIÓN DE LOS PERSONAJES EN RÉPLICA: UNA LECTURA A LA LUZ DE LA TEORÍA DE LA NARRATIVA

Resumen

The short story “Replica” is part of the collection “On Her Neck,” written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The plot highlights the daily life of Nkem, a Nigerian woman who immigrates to the United States after her husband Obiora's economic success. The house where this family lives is filled with objects that replicate memories of the Nigerian context. In this sense, the objective of this study was to analyze the construction of the characters in the short story “Replica,” based on Narrative Theory, considering cultural, emotional, and narrative issues. In addition, we sought to understand the strategies used in the formation of these literary figures and their contribution to the meanings of the text. The research follows a qualitative and interpretive approach, based on the theoretical references of Candido (2009), Rosenfeld (2009), Eco (1993), and Dourado (1973). The results indicate that the characters have different degrees of depth: some remain static, while others transform throughout the plot, revealing psychological and emotional layers. From this perspective, “Réplica” uses the construction of characters to articulate narrative and cultural issues, reaffirming literature as a space for critical analysis and reflection on the human condition.
